The California State Senate has endorced the work and school stoppages by ilegal immigrants on Monday.
For me the big issue is not that the State Senate is supporting illegal immigrants. That is nothing new. The Senate has always been willing to pass things like drivers licences and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.
But this takes it to a whole new level. For the first time in my memory at least, a legislative body has advocated the underming of its own economy and school system for the sake of a protest.
The Senators are encouraging illegals to stay home from work. This will definatly have a negative impact on the economy of California (although the amount is debatable). And these so-called representatives cannot deny it.
But not only will the negative impact be felt on the economy, but also our education system. California schools recieve money based on average daily attendence, and thus they stand to lose millions as a result of this walkout.
Recall that Democrats have recently been screaming loudly about schools losing money. Yet as a result of a protest that they have endorced, the schools will indeed lose money, thus hurting everything Democrats have been saying Arnold Schwarzenegger has been trying to cut.
So the California State Senate has endorced a walkout that will severely damage its economy and school system. And they do it with the full knowledge that this harm will be done.
When will the people wake up and throw these folks out of office?

I don’t know, Andy, and it is really starting to worry me. Not only has the California legislature put a badge of legitimacy on these May Day protest marches, but they have tried to change the conversation. It isn’t anti-immigration, it’s anti- illegal-immigration, folks. If you flaunt the rule of law on which our country is founded, you set a precedent and what’s next? Securing the borders is not anti-immigrant. But I have a big problem with this movement by some Hispanic organizations bent on “taking back America” to pre-1840, before the Mexican-American War. I heard on C-Span this guy Gutierrez talking about how the Hispanics are going to teach America a lesson, advocating almost anarchy. They have an agenda and it’s the browning of America. WE can only support so much immigration from any country. We are not a bottomless pit. You may well be witnessing a watershed event in our natiion’s history. Congress is full of wimps and we should vote them out if they can’t stand up for what’s right. When was the last time it was OK with you that someone broke the law or cut into the head of the line?
